Aamir Khan has expressed his happiness that the Indian parliament has approved a bill to protect children from sexual exploitation.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Bill, 2011 was cleared by Rajya Sabha and approved by the Lower House by voice vote on Tuesday (May 22).
Khan, who highlighted the issue of child sexual abuse in the second episode of his show Satyamev Jayate, reacted to the news on Facebook, writing: "Hey guys, great news! The Lok Sabha has passed the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Bill today!!! Unbelievable!!! Super News!"
The 47-year-old actor, who spoke to victims of abuse and their family members on his TV show, had called for the bill to be passed quickly and wrote a letter to the government.
Under the bill, special courts will be set up for the trial of cases and it will provide stringent punishment extending up to a life term for offenders.
